Home > About Us > Knowing God

Christians are committed followers of Jesus Christ. We believe that salvation--forgiveness of all individual wrong-doing and an eternal place in heaven with God--is found in Jesus Christ alone. Our work on earth is to learn more about Christ through His Word, the Bible, and to live out the mission and purpose He details for us there. The greatest prayer and hope of all true Christians is that each and every person on earth will find salvation through Christ.

Saved From What?
Sometimes Christians use the phrase "saved" to describe someone who has come to salvation in Christ. Saved from what? If salvation in Christ leads to eternity with God, then we are saved from an eternity apart from God. The Bible calls this eternity apart from God "Hell". Hell is not a popular word or thought these days, but the Bible teaches that hell is real just as heaven is real. If hell is real and eternity is real, then how where we will spend eternity becomes the single greatest decision we will face in life.

Why Can Jesus Save Us?
The Bible says that the penalty for sin is death--hell (Romans 3:23). The Bible also teaches that Jesus Christ lived a sinless life, and died on a cross 2000 years ago to take the penalty for sin--all of our sin--on Himself. He arose from the dead three days later. Just as He is alive, those who surrender to Him and follow Him can share in both His forgiveness of sin (for which He paid the penalty) and in eternal life.

How Do We Come to Salvation?
Salvation in Jesus Christ comes when we surrender our lives to Him. Jesus becomes our "savior", the one who saves us from the penalty of sin, and "Lord", the one who is in charge of our lives. Jesus is the only way to a relationship with God. He said in John 14:6, "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father but through me." Salvation comes when you:

See that you are a sinner in God's eyes and separated from Him.

"For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard." Romans 3:23 (NLT)

Understand that Christ died for your sins and as God, came back from the dead.

"It is this Good News that saves you if you continue to believe the message I told you—unless, of course, you believed something that was never true in the first place. I passed on to you what was most important and what had also been passed on to me. Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said. He was buried, and he was raised from the dead on the third day, just as the Scriptures said." 1 Corinthians 15:2-4 (NLT)

Receive God's total forgiveness for your sins by trusting Christ as your Savior.

"Now God says He will accept us and acquit us--declare us not guilty--if we trust Jesus Christ to take away our sins... we can be saved by coming to Christ, no matter who we are or what we have been like." Romans 3:22 (LB)

Express your desire for Christ to be the Lord of your life.

"If you say with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved from the punishment of sin." Romans 10:9 (NLV)

If you are willing to surrender your life to Christ, and receive God's gift of eternal life, you can express this desire to God through prayer. You might pray something like this:

Dear God, I am a sinner and want to be forgiven. I believe Jesus Christ, your son, died for my sins and is alive right now. I turn away from my sin and now surrender to Jesus Christ as my Lord and receive him into my life. I ask you, Lord Jesus, to control my life and I thank you for giving me eternal life.

If you commit your life completely to Christ, the next steps are really simple:

> First, tell someone about surrendering your life to Christ.

> Next, illustrate your commitment through biblical baptism.

Okay, That's Deep
The study of spiritual beliefs is called theology. What we believe spiritually influences who we are and all that we do, each day and every day. As we learn more about God by studying the Bible, many of our spiritual questions are answered and other questions arise. We can spend our entire lives learning about God and we will never know all there is to know about Him. In the Bible, God created the church as the organization by which we can learn about Christ and serve Him and one another together.
