Evangelism FAQs

What is “success” in evangelism?

Success is simply sharing the gospel or your testimony and leaving the results to God.

What if they have a question I can't answer?

Honesty is the best policy. Nobody can answer every question. Simply let them know that you do not know the answer at that moment, but you will get back to them with an answer.

But do not let them get you sidetracked from the gospel and especially from the resurrection of Jesus.

What if they say, “All religions basically teach the same thing?”

This is a great time to ask the question, “Is that true?” Give examples of how they don't teach the same thing.

The greatest example is Christianity teaches there's no other way to heaven except Jesus. No other religion teaches that. So that simply isn’t true.

Furthermore, emphasize that Christianity is not a religion, it’s a relationship.

What if they don't believe the Bible?

The first question is to ask them, “Have you ever read it?” Then ask them if they would be willing to read just one book — the Gospel of John.

Then ask two questions: “Who did Jesus claim to be?” and “What am I going to do about it?”

How can a loving God send people to hell?

A loving God doesn't send people to hell. A loving God sent Jesus to die on the cross so that people would not have to go to hell.

God desires all people to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth. But the people who go to hell end up there by choice.

Why does God allow suffering?

The ultimate cause of suffering is sin. God gave the human race a gift called free will. When the human race sinned, our perfect world was made imperfect. Part of an imperfect world is suffering.

But we must understand all suffering through the cross of Jesus Christ. The greatest suffering ever imaginable happened on the cross when the only innocent, perfect Man who ever lived died for the sins of the whole world.

Therefore, God not only understands suffering, He actually entered into suffering with us.
